Last night as Aidan and I walked home from visiting Rudy at Steph's and Sammy's, Aidan made the sign for light. It was a clear and chilly night and the stars were out as well as a good hunk of moon. I couldn't figure it out- but the books I read about signing with a baby says many times parents aren't observant enough to read baby signs. Once we got inside the house and were warm and A did the sign for light again, I got it. I guess it's not a biggie- but I think it was the first time Aidan saw the stars and moon in the sky and used his words to let me know he saw them. What a delicious baby.
Oh yes! Henry has some news today too! He is scooting backward- just as Aidan did when he was learning to crawl. At least I can recognize that move! He sets his sights on a toy at the edge of his blanket. Sticks out his little lizard tongue and starts scooting. in the opposite direction. Yeah!

I have 4 daughters and my 3rd is hearing impaired. We started teaching our kids baby sign language and it has been amazing. Babies have so much to say that we just don't get. Our 3 and 18 month old were able to communicate so much more to us earlier using baby signs then our first two. If you haven't heard of signing time DVDs you should check them out, in my opinion they are the best sign language videos around and you can find their shows on TV for free! We stumbled upon them a few years ago and it has really helped us teach vocabulary and have fun as a family learning ASL. All the best - Mike
This is from Nan, Pat and Chuck's friend, from Missoula.....
When my daughter in law and son were teaching manners and baby sign to their child, she reported being in the grocery store one day with baby, and he said he wanted some fruit or candy or something. She said, "Then say please".....he rubbed his chest or something, and asked again, and she began to feel frustrated...."SAY PLEASE!" and this time he banged himself on the chest---and she realized he WAS saying 'please', in sign, and she had missed it......
